Soaker

Worsted weight or lt worsted weight wool (True soakers would be made with regular wool so that they absorb the urine. If these are going to go over disposable diapers, just for show, use superwash wool.)

I used approx. 3/4 of a skein of LaLaine with size 5 US needles

Short rows: knit to last 5 sts, turn.
Knit to last 5 sts, turn.
Knit to last 10 sts, turn.
Knit to last 10 sts, turn.
Knit to end of row, turn.
Knit to end of row.
This gives you 4 more rows in the center of the garment than on the edges, for that nice little bit of extra fabric to make for a better fit on the backside.

Cast on 68 stitches.
k2p2 rib for 10 rows decreasing to 51 sts on last row.
Work in garter stitch until piece measures 7".
k3p3 rib for 6".
Work in garter stitch for 4 ridges/8 rows and add 6 short rows.
Continue garter stitch until 5 ridges short of matching front piece and add 4 more short rows.
Continue garter stitch until #rows along edge of back matches #rows along front edge, increase to 68 sts on last row.
k2p2 rib for 10 rows.

If you leave a long tail when you cast on, you can sew one side seam with that and the other side you can sew with the end tail and you won't have any extra ends to weave in.

Sew each side for about 6" (if you have a kid with thighs like mine had, leave good sized leg holes...if you have a kid with skinny thighs, you can sew a bit farther).

Run a ribbon in and out of the ribbing, to tie in front. Take a stitch at center back to affix it to the fabric.
