Hats for the whole family, sizes preemie to grandpa. This little penguin will not only keep your head warm, it is guaranteed to bring a smile to the faces of all who see it perched on your head. It is fun to make this little bird out of cotton for the wee ones or wool for the bigger sizes.
Materials:
Preemie:
Needles - One set size US 3 (3.25 mm) double pointed needles
Yarn - 3/2 mercerized cotton or any sport weight yarn: 50 yards black, 25 yards orange, 10 yards white.
Gauge - 5.5 stitches per inch over stockinet stitch
Kid:
Needles - One set size US 5 (3.75mm) double pointed needles. Optional - size 5 (3.75mm) 16" circular.
Yarn - dk or worsted weight wool yarn
Gauge - 5 sts per inch over stockinet stitch
Adult:
Needles - Two size US 8 (5mm) needles
Yarn - dk/worsted/aran weight wool yarn
Gauge - 4.5 sts per inch over stockinet stitch
Yarn Colours (Kid/Adult) - 155 yards black and 35 yards orange (either regular of superwash), 75 yards fingering weight white non-superwash.
