Walter's Choice:
Preemie/Baby hats: Happy, Happy Birth Day, Baby, Something’s Fishy, Strawberry Parfait.
Sizes: preemie (lg preemie, newborn, 3-6 months)
Materials:
Needles - 2 size US 3 (3.25mm) needles or size to achieve gauge for hats. 2 size US 2 (3mm) double pointed needles, (you will use these to knit the decorations in the round and back and forth). 1 tapestry needle, 3.5mm crochet hook is helpful for Happy, Happy Birth Day, Baby.
Yarn - 3/2 wt cotton or sport wt yarn that achieves gauge. 1oz is plenty to make any of the basic hats along with oddments of yarn for each pattern. For 6 months size, use worsted wt yarn (1skein, 100gm) each color.
Gauge - 5.5 stitches per inch and 7 rows per inch over stockinet stitch for lighter weight yarn. 4.5 stitches per inch over stockinet for worsted weight yarn.
