Rose Garland Shawl
Rose Garland ShawlA dozen roses in garter stitch outlined by lacy holes encircle this pi shawl. To protect the roses, the central rings are knitted in ladybird stitch and the outside edging is delicate picot thorns in garter stitch.

Finished measurement of shawl (after blocking): 67"/170 cm diameter

Yarn: any laceweight which approximately = 16 oz/454 gm - 5040 yds/4608 m

Needles & Notions:
Four size 3 mm (US 2 1/2) double-pointed needles, one size 3 mm (US 2 1/2) 24"/61 cm circular needle, one size 3 mm (US 2 1/2) 40"/101.5 cm circular needle or size to obtain gauge, 3.5 mm crochet hook, markers, optional 16 packages of unsweetened Koolaid

Gauge: 30 sts x 44 rows = 4"/10 cm over gently blocked stockinette stitch

Cover model was knitted with Henry's Attic Moriah 100% wool, then dyed in Wildberry Tea Koolaid

Pattern includes written row & rnd instructions, lace charts, optional Koolaid dyeing instructions

Symbol legend:
The description for the purl stitch symbol has a typo in the description, the second RS should read as WS.


Note (April 30/2003):
It has come to my attention that my wording in the section which begins with chart A needs a bit of clarification. I hope this helps some of you who may have been confused by the original instructions. All new patterns will contain this rewritten section.

Begin Chart A
Work rnd 5's 6-st repeat 12 times to end of rnd. Continue in pattern through chart rnd 8. Then work rnd 1's 6-st repeat 12 times to end of rnd. Continue in pattern through chart rnd 8.

Inc rnd: *K1, yo, repeat from *. (144 sts)
Next rnd: K.

*Work rnd 1's 6-st repeat 24 times to end of rnd. Continue in pattern through chart rnd 8, repeat from * 2 more times.

Inc rnd: *K1, yo, repeat from *. (288 sts)
Next rnd: K.

*Work rnd 1's 6-st repeat 48 times to end of rnd. Continue in pattern through chart rnd 8, repeat from * 5 more times.

Inc rnd: *K1, yo, repeat from *. (576 sts)
Next rnd: K.
