Chill Chaser & Mittens
Chill Chaser & Mittens
The Chill Chaser Cap/Cowl designed by Julie Gaddy was a great idea so I made this set for my mother-in-law Marilyn. I used Bernat Nice 'N' Soft (100% acrylic) in Surf and mixed it with one strand of an unknown acrylic I also had in my stash. The Chill Chaser was knitted using 6 mm dpns and the mittens were knit in Surf only on 3.75 mm and 4.5 mm dpns.

I decided that the mittens needed some sort of accent on them and found a lace pattern for oak leaves in Nicki Epstein's Knitted Embellishments book. I knitted the leaves on 3 mm needles, removed the yo's and replaced with m1's. I then sewed the oak leaves onto the mittens and crocheted a chain in a gold 100% wool that was also hiding in my stash. I then sewed the slip stitch chain all around the leaves to make them stand out more on the mittens.

The pattern for the Chill Chaser can be found in the Summer 2001 (K63) issue of Knitters magazine on page 42. The mittens are my mom's design and this pattern can be purchased from Needle Beetle by clicking here.
